Can Oncu will become youngest-ever Moto3 competitor this Sunday

Can Öncü will take the next step of his career by jumping into the Moto3 World Championship with Red Bull. The turkish will become the youngest rider ever to debut in Moto3 with a record of 15 years old, seven months and 12 days. It should be noted that Öncü will arrive in Losail already with some experience in the category since it will be in Valencia as a wildcard.

The rider was given the opportunity to become the 2018 champion in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. In addition, both he and his brother will be present at the Moto3 Junior World Championship at FIM CEV with Red Bull KTM Ajo.

Can Öncü started his international career together with his brother in 2016 at the Asia Talent Cup. The following year, he participated in the same competition as in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, finishing third with his brother closing the championship a position below.

“I feel happy, excited and a little nervous ahead of this first wildcard appearance in the Moto3 World Championship. I can’t wait to get on the bike on Friday,” said Oncu.“A few days ago we did a test here at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit and it was quite positive; we felt good. Although it’s not one of my favourite circuits, this track has many corners and that’s what I like.

“My goal is to have a good weekend, learn, and on Sunday have a good race that gives us the best possible result.”

The last Moto3 race of the 2018 season will take place on Sunday at 11am local time, over 23 laps.
